Although written records are difficult to find for the 18th century, we do have a written record of Henry Osborne. He appears to have been a carpenter in Lindfield with apprentices recorded in 1732, 1737 and 1738. This would be just after his marriage in Lindfield to Mary Young on 2 Dec. 1731. Prior to this he was in Hartfield. The couple brought up a substantial family but lost their 6th enfant child William in 1745. Mary was pregnant at the time and so the next child, born in May the following year, was fortuitously a boy and so was also named William. Wife Mary died in 1767 and Henry Osborne was buried in Lindfield in September 1772.
